In my teenage years, I watched Natalie Portman in Garden State and Zooey Deschanel in 500 Days of Summer and fell madly in admiration with the quirky but beloved female protagonist. By the time I was living in New York City, taking Acting Classes and watching Lena Dunham take her infamous Brooklyn-bath, I knew I was going to write female characters that were messy and fun like those that built me.
